Tampere Ambassador: Eashan Salhotra

Where are you from?
I am from India. I moved to Tampere in 2012 for Master Degree Programme in Software Development at University of Tampere.

What would you like to tell about yourself?
I am a free-spirited, confident and talented person who likes to meet new people and discover new places. I am really interested in intercultural communication and love listening to music.

Why is Tampere the best place to live?
Tampere is the most favourite city to live among Finnish people. I also experienced the same as Tampere has the combination of natural scenery and modern life. While you go to many of the famous clubs, one can go for hiking in the forest or just take a dip in the fresh waters of the lakes. Tampere is a perfect student city and I have a first-hand experience to tell. It is a wonderful city with the network of the three universities and new comers are warmly welcomed.

Tell about your professional activities?
I have recently graduated from my master degree programme at the University of Tampere. My professional background is related to Information Technology. I have a work experience of 5 years. I have served as Board Member at Erasmus Student Network, Finland and completed an internship in Berlin during my master degree. I aspire to open a Start-up in Tampere in the future. You can reach me on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=93245254

What is your involvement in international activities?
I have always tried to involve myself in multicultural communication and activities related to internationalization.
The major activities I was involved with are as follows:
a) Erasmus in Schools
b) Organising Language Groups and acting as a Language Group Leader
c) Organising Student Trips and being a Group Leader
d) Organising Orientation week for international students
e) Organising Student Parties and Get-Togethers

What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
a) Promote Tampere as the best city in Finland.
b) Motivate friends and professional contacts to visit and work in Tampere.
c) Involve different student bodies to connect international students and Finns with international mind-set.
d) Help Tredea in organising regular events like seminars, workshops and bigger events like Twinkle.
e) Connect with internationally and business oriented people.

What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
I see Tampere as a commercial capital of Finland. Tampere can become a Start-Up hub like Berlin or Stockholm due to the presence of talented international crowd (students and employees) and its relationships with the ICT.
Tampere is well connected by Rail, Bus and Air and it is just two hours away from Helsinki. More international flights would enable the city to become a perfect venue for meetings, conferences and congresses.
