Tampere Ambassador: Joseph Walubengo

Where are you from?
I'm from Kenya, East Africa.

What would you like to tell about yourself?
I'm an Automotive engineer trained in Kenya. I'm also a Non-Formal Education for Peace graduate trained in Israel. Currently I'm the Country Manager for two Finnish companies known as Kometos and JPT. I work with rural populations whose main activities are centred around farming. My work involves designing of development projects that seek to improve the earnings of these communities.

Why is Tampere the best place to live?
During my training visit to Finland. We did visit Tampere and I was Impressed by all that I saw. During this training I saw how industrialised Tampere is yet well organised. I believe that with such a high number of trained professionals Tampere provides opportunities in all sectors.

What is your involvement in international matters?
My work involves the creation of networks and partnership between the communities I work with an international network who are of the same interest and vision as they do.

I do represent these communities on both local and internation platforms who's aim is to build the capacity of these small scale farmers. The programs range from women empowerment, climate change, tourism, food security, environment protection, afforastation, industrialization and education.

What is your mission as a Tampere - All Bright! Ambassador?
I'll use this opportunity to promote and market Tampere abroad.

What potential do you see in Tampere in the future?
I see the potential of Tampere standing out as a technology transfer city and centre that supports the growth of least developed countries.
