Where are you from?
Originally I am from Germany.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
I got to know some researchers from Tampere at a conference and asked myself "Where the heck is Tampere?" after I got an invitation to apply at TUT (Technical University of Tampere). I still came to the job invitation and liked the team and the city so much that I decided to move to Tampere.
Why is Tampere the best place to live?
I was lucky from the beginning and got to know amazing people who I can call now my friends. Working for TUT and BioMediTech gives me the opportunity to develop myself personally and my research. I really like this industrial charm of Tampere.
Tell about your professional activities?
Since March 2013 I am officially project researcher at TUT. My research field is Computational Neuroscience, so we investigate the behaviour of neuronal networks in biology and of simulated ones.
What is your involvement in international activities?
Well, in the first place, I am an international reseacher myself and I am strongly connected in my research field and in the fields of Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering in general. And I am a traveller who likes to explore new cultures.
What is your mission as a Tampere - All Bright! Ambassador?
I would like to build bridges between the academic worlds in Germany and Finland. I have received myself mentoring but have been a mentor as well. I would like to give this experiences to others and would like to broaden my network.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
Tampere still has to do a lot to get internationally recognized - it has to open more towards the world. A lot has been done already but still I see many internationals struggeling here. Tampere has potential which I have seen already in 2012 when I came the first time.
