Tampere Ambassador: Lishan Wu

Where are you from?
I am from Guangdong, China. I moved to Tampere when I started my bachelor studies at Tampere University of Applied Science back in 2011. In 2013- 2014 I did one year Erasmus exchange in Germany and then I moved back to Tampere.

What would you like to tell about yourself?
I am a recent graduate from two universities (Tampere University of Applied Science in Finland & Ostfalia University of Applied Science in Germany) where I studied Bio-Environmental Engineering. In the upcoming autumn I will continue my master degree in Industrial Engineering and Management at Tampere University of Technology. I am so much looking forward to it! In the future, I want to bring Finnish advanced cleantech to Asian countries.

Besides hard-working at school, I also like to participate in project work and voluntary work, and I consider them as great opportunities to develop myself.

Why is Tampere the best place to live?
The size of Tampere city is just perfect for me. It is not too big, but it is not small. I could reach anywhere by bike, in the summer time of course. I enjoy walking next to lakes, I enjoy eating the best munkki in the world, I enjoy going to forest with friends and I enjoy pretty much everything Tampere has to offer!

Tell about your professional activities?
I consider myself as an international student. I have been a student in China, Finland and Germany and I will continue my master degree in Tampere.  I appreciate multicultural differences and I like to compare different national educational culture.

What is your involvement in international activities?
Currently I am a part-time interpreter for Finnish and Chinese cleantech companies. I am proud of  being a bridge for Chinese and Finnish companies.

What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
My mission is to promote the City of Tampere to everyone as a nice city for; living, studying, working and doing business. As well as to welcome individuals or companies coming to Tampere and to connect Tampere with international business activities.

What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
I think Tampere is ready to bloom. There are so many local technology-based companies seeking for new opportunities to enter international market. On the other hand, more and more international-minded people are studying, working and living in Tampere. I believe these international-minded people can work together with local companies for a greater goal.  Being part of helping Tampere to become a leader in sustainable clean technology is my great wish.
