Tampere Ambassador: Réka Hajdu-Rahkama

Where are you from?
I am from a small village called Mátraderecske, located in the Northern region of Hungary.

What would you like to tell about yourself?
I have been living in Finland since 2010. While living in Finland I have been working as a Software Testing Engineer and studying at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. In 2013 I went to Germany for one year to study Bioengineering and after my return to Finland, I graduated as a Bio- and Environmental Engineer (B. Eng.). Right now I am a first year Bioengineering MSc student at Tampere University of Technology.

Why is Tampere the best place to live?
I have lived in towns of different sizes and in my view Tampere has the right size. In the city center everything is within a walking distance and most of the places can be reached by bike. There is new and old architecture and the town is surrounded by nature. The short distance to Pirkkala airport also makes the city attractive.

What are your professional activities?
Right now my professional activity is being a master student and studying.

What is your involvement in international activities?
I have been taking part in international projects in Finland, Germany and Iceland. I also like to help in the organization of international conferences (e.g. Dry Toilet Conference) and other events.

What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador? How do you want to help?
My current mission is to promote Tampere for my contacts abroad. In the future I also would like to make Tampere more attractive for foreign investments and other business activities.

What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
In the future Tampere could be an ideal touristic destination and one of the world’s leading places of R&D and Technology.
