Where are you from?
I usually say that I am from Tampere because I have been living here 11 years in total and it’s the longest I’ve every lived in one place. I was actually born in Tampere but my family moved to a close by town called Nokia when I was two years old. From there we moved to Pirkkala where I spent most of my childhood. At the age of 18 I finally moved back to Tampere and have been living here since. Small exception to that was in 2008 when I was living in Switzerland for a half a year.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
I work as a freelance producer/event manager mainly in the field of theatre. I really enjoy organizing events and putting my skills in use in order to transform a great idea into an interesting event that brings people together. On my free time I like to travel, go see some theatre or improv shows, dance, learn new languages and play board games with my friends.
Why is Tampere the best place to live?
Tampere is a city you fall in love with. My friend once said that Tampere is “a city size of a human”, meaning it’s not too small or too big – just perfect. This city also has a relaxed and inspiring feel to it that probably has something to do with it’s rich cultural field: lots of gigs, theatres, festivals, art displays, nice and unique bars and cafes - just to mention some of the cool activities this city has to offer. I also find Tampere very beautiful with its historical red brick buildings, the rapid in the middle of the city and the nature always close by.
Tell about your professional activities?
Last year I graduated from University of Tampere with my Master of Arts degree. I majored in Theatre and Drama Research. At the moment I am part of the production team of Finland International Improv Festival (aka FIIF). In the past I have also worked in various theatres in Tampere for example Tampere Theatre’s Aplodi ticket sales office that shares its business space with Visit Tampere Tourist Information.
What is your involvement in international activities?
This year I am part of the production team of FIIF, the Finland International Improv Festival that gathers around fans and professionals of improvisation theatre from all over the world to Tampere. During my years at the Tampere Student Theatre (Tampereen Ylioppilasteatteri) I organized events for international degree and exchange students. Also many of my friends have moved to Tampere from abroad to study or work here.
What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
In short, spread the word of Tampere. I think this city is a great place to live, study and work in but also a great place to visit. I would like to work to unite and inspire people and help newcomers to adapt and find their place in Tampere.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
I see Tampere as a growing, culturally interesting city where people enjoy their lives. As the city keeps developing it offers a growth place for new ideas and innovations as well in business and in the field of arts. Tampere also has to offer a great setting for international festivals and congresses: easily accessible with various facilities and services for a successful event.
