Tampere Ambassador: Sujitha Ravi

Where are you from ?
I was born and brought up in a small town called ‘Dharmapuri’ in the state of Tamil nadu in Southern India. I spent all my school education and University education in the same place, my home town. The first city where I lived for a long time (still living and loving) outside my home town is Tampere. In that way Tampere is very close to my heart.

What would you like to tell about yourself?
I completed my University education in Electronics & Communication Engineering. I am 28 years old now and a mother of a boy who is 5 years old now. I am a strongly opinionated and a rebellious person when it comes to Social injustice, Gender Inequality and Racism.I am also a Dancer who started to learn dancing only after coming to Tampere. I was inspired by dance performances by Daniel Paul, a Creative Director of Danny’s Bollywood Dance Crew. I started to learn Dancing from him and also performed many Dance shows with the performing crew and ended up even performing in a Suomen Kesä teatteri (Summer theatre) at Valkeakoski in 2014. I am currently learning other styles like Street Dancing and Twerking at Razzmatazz Dance studio and I want to explore more different styles in future. Dancing was initially a hobby for me but eventually it has become a part of my life.

Why is Tampere the best place to live?
I come from a hugely populated country and to me Tampere is very peaceful, secure and is not so crowded, at the same time has best schools, universities, many International companies and many Finnish companies that are going international. So,Tampere is definitely a best place to live and raise a family.

Tell about your Professional activities?
I am currently working as a Project Director in Humming world Oy, a Tampere based company which has its operations in India and Srilanka. Humming world Oy is a social enterprise that delivers high impact projects to poverty stricken regions in Developing countries that would result in improvement in health, education, sanitation, enterpreneurships and innovations.

What is your involvement in International activities?
I am an active volunteer in Kölvi which is an NGO for Teenage immigrant boys, and have also volunteered as Dance instructor in Peltolammi Refugee center. I was part of event staff in TWINKLE 2015 which is the first biggest International event organized in Tampere and also organized some promotional activities and parties for it. Volunteering in TWINKLE 2015 led me to get the opportunity to work with TREDEA Oy team in organizing Make in India Business Lunch at TalentSpace on Feb 5th 2016 with the support of Tampere - All Bright! Ambassador Network and Embassy of India in Finland.

What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
I would like to participate in organizing various international events in Tampere and also abroad and promote Tampere internationally as one of the best place to live & work and also as a city open for international collaborations in various sectors.

What potential do you see for Tampere in future?
I see Tampere having the potential to become more and more International. The decline of NOKIA has led to more and more skilled professionals become unemployed which motivated them to work towards creating their own start-ups in Tampere. The city has all the resources with it to become a platform for technological innovations and one of the biggest hub for many Creative Start-ups in future.
