*Daria Simkina is part of Tampere Student Ambassador programme, where students from UTA, TTY and TAMK are promoting Tampere internationally as a great place to study and live.*
Where are you from?
I am from Russia, now studying in Tampere.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
I am currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in International Business at TAMK, and my previous degree is in translation studies.
What makes Tampere special for you?
Tampere is a beautiful city that gives one a chance to enjoy being close to nature without giving up on a life in a developed modern city. Study opportunities are an important part of its attraction, with the three universities cooperating to provide a very diverse list of course options for students in many different fields. Tampere is also very dynamic and international, while at the same time allowing for peace and quiet for those who want it.
Tell about your professional activities?
I am a full-time student, but also work as an online language tutor, teaching mainly Finnish and Russian.
What is your involvement in international activities?
My work is very international, with students coming from different parts of the world. I also have some experience of participating in international fairs. Last year I worked as my university’s social media ambassador in Russian-speaking social networks.
What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
I’d like more people to know more about the opportunities Tampere offers, for example, as they are making their choice about their future studies. On the other hand, Tampere has something to offer not just for students, but for other people as well, both as a place to work in and a tourism destination.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
Innovation and education – especially now that the merging of the universities brings new opportunities. Already now, Tampere is a great city to live in – but it has a potential do become even better!
