Where are you from?
I live in a small spa town in northern England which is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is popular with tourists during the summer months.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
I love to travel, explore new destinations and meet people. I'm also interested in writing and photography so in August 2015 I decided to combine my three main hobbies by starting a travel blog.
What makes Tampere a special place for you?
I fell in love with Tampere on my first visit back in 2006. Being from northern England, I was originally attracted by its industrial heritage as its cotton mills are similar to those near home. The city is special to me because it has stunning scenery on its doorstep with beautiful lakes and forests just a short walk from the centre. I'm also attracted by the warmth of its people and their innovative nature.
Tell about your professional activities?
My background is in teaching and on several occasions I participated in a tutor exchange programme in Finland which enabled me to network with colleagues, explore and learn more about the country and its people.
What is your involvement in international activities?
My current involvement in international activities is through my travel blog. I visit many places near and far, documenting cultural highlights, attractions and hidden gems. Hopefully, by sharing my experiences in my blog, I can help other independent travellers with their travel planning and encourage people to visit places they might not previously have considered.
What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
To promote Tampere as a tourist destination and raise awareness of the business opportunities the region has to offer. I hope to achieve this by documenting my experiences of Tampere through my blog and other social media channels.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
I believe that Tampere has the potential to attract increasing numbers of visitors from across the world and build upon its reputation as an excellent place to visit, study and do business. I envisage Tampere capitalising on the significant number of tourists and business people alike who currently pass through Finland on their way to destinations across Europe and Asia. With time and raised awareness I hope to see Tampere increasingly becoming a year round destination in its own right.
