Where are you from?
I am a barefoot tamperelainen, and now I work and live in Seattle, Washington in the United States.
What would you like to tell about yourself?
Being a tamperelainen abroad is great! Coming from Tampere means that I have that innate spirit of “ei tehrä tästä ny numeroo”, meaning there is no need to make big fuss about every small thing. It is important to have deep focus. When something is finished, good job is worth sharing and celebrating.
What makes Tampere special for you?
Tampere is not only a city but also a lifestyle. It is the spirit of innovation and development with a down to Earth approach.
Tell about your professional activities?
I graduated with a Master of Science in Architecture degree from Tampere University of Technology. I have about 15 years of experience in virtual design and construction, now expanding my knowhow to extended reality and other new technologies.
Making a positive impact is about learning and sharing, which is why I am a member of Commercial Real-Estate Women CREW, a mentor in Women in XR, and a public speaker in the new tech community in Seattle.
What is your involvement in international activities?
When I lived in Tampere, I worked as a researcher and a project manager for VTT and the City of Tampere. My projects involved collaboration with multiple international countries.
I currently work for Sellen Construction, the largest general contractor company in the Pacific North West area. I am innovating how new technologies can be applied into construction industry. My passion is combining people, business and technology, and together making a positive impact.
What is your mission as a Tampere Ambassador?
My mission as a Tampere Ambassador is to connect people in Tampere and Seattle area, and help generate new business ideas. Construction industry is local, but business is global. There are endless possibilities to start collaboration between these two regions.
What potential do you see for Tampere in the future?
Tampere has all the potential to become world famous for the next technology boom. It is a fantastic high-tech city with all the requirements for international collaboration. People in Tampere are nice, smart and brave – something worth investing!
